Secure Shell, better known as SSH, is a cryptographic network protocol used to execute commands on a remote web server or to exchange data between a website hosting server and a client. Because the info exchanged by the 2 sides is encoded, a third party won't be able to intercept it, which makes SSH a favored means of controlling a web hosting account. The commands which may be executed are determined by the type of hosting service. On a shared web server, for instance, the possibilities are limited as you shall not have root access to the website hosting server, so you could simply create/move/delete files, set up and unpack archives, import and export databases, and so on. They're all actions which are performed in the shared hosting account and don't need a higher level of access. Using a virtual or a dedicated server, you will have the ability to install server-side software or to restart the server or only a particular service (web server, database server, etc.). SSH commands are submitted with a command line, but if you don't employ a UNIX-like OS, there are a lot of apps for other OSs, you can use to connect to the remote web server as well.

SSH Telnet in Hosting

When you have a hosting account with us and you want to handle your content remotely via SSH, you can easily get SSH access to the account via your Hepsia Control Panel. If your plan does not come with this feature as standard, you can easily add it with several mouse clicks via the Upgrades menu. In the SSH section of the CP, you'll see the host, the port number and the username you should use when you connect to the account. You could also pick what password you want to use, since it does not have to be the same as the one for the account. We have prepared many Help articles in which you could find all the commands you will be able to use with a shared hosting plan, plus examples of how they are used. Moreover, if SSH access is permitted for your account, you will be able to establish a Secure FTP (SFTP) connection by using a standard client such as FileZilla, for example.

SSH Telnet in Semi-dedicated Servers

SSH access is offered as standard with some of our semi-dedicated server packages, while with others you will be able to add it via the hosting Control Panel if required - even only for the current month. In either case, you can activate and de-activate the feature with only one click via the SSH section of the CP. In the same location, you'll discover the server name, the port number and the username required to connect to our platform. You will also find a box where you may type in the password which you want to use, as it doesn't need to be the same as the one you use to log into the Control Panel. For better security, you may also change it as frequently as you want. A complete list of the commands that can be executed within a semi-dedicated account is provided in our Knowledge Base, alongside the syntax and a couple of instances. An extra function after SSH access is allowed will be the ability to connect to your hosting space via SFTP through any FTP client which supports this sort of connections.

SSH Telnet in VPS Servers

You shall be able to use SSH to manage your content regardless of which VPS plans you choose when you sign up, since all of our plans include this feature as standard. You will not need to include or activate anything manually - immediately after your hosting server is prepared and you get the Welcome email with the login info, you may connect and begin working on your websites or any software that you would like to set up and run on the server. You'll have root-level access to the VPS and because the account shall be separated from the other accounts within the physical hosting server, you'll be able to do anything you would like with no restrictions. You'll be able to install any app that you need and that will work on a Linux-based server, reboot any software server (web, database, game, media, etc.) and handle your files and databases efficiently.
