Every single registered domain name has a minimum of two Name Server records that show where it's hosted i.e. by using these records you point your domain to the servers of a particular web hosting provider. This way, you've got both your website and your e-mails handled by the exact same company. On the lower level of the Domain Name System (DNS), on the other hand, there is a variety of other records, for example A and MX. The former reveals which server handles the site for a given domain name and is always an IP address (123.123.123.123), while the second one indicates which server handles the e-mails and is always an alphanumeric string (mx1.domain.com). As an illustration, any time you enter a domain name in your browser, your request is directed through the global DNS system to the company whose NS records the domain uses and from there you will be forwarded to the servers of a different provider provided you have set an IP address of the latter as an A record for your domain. Having different records for the site and the e-mails means you can have your site and your e-mails with 2 different companies if you wish.

Custom MX and A Records in Hosting

If you have a hosting account through our company and you would like to direct either your site or your e-mails to a different service provider, it's going to take you literally simply two mouse clicks to do this. Our Hepsia Control Panel offers an easy-to-use DNS Records tool, where all your domain names and subdomains are going to be listed alphabetically and you're going to be able to see and modify the A and/or MX records for any of them. If you wish to use a different e-mail provider and they ask you to set up more MX records than the default two, it won't take more than a couple of mouse clicks either to add them. Also you can set different latency for these records and the lower the latency, the greater the priority a particular MX record is going to have. The propagation of each record that you change or set up will not take more than several hours and if required, you will also be able to set the so-called Time-To-Live value, that shows how long a record will stay active after it is modified or deleted.

Custom MX and A Records in Semi-dedicated Servers

With the semi-dedicated hosting plans we offer, you will have total control over the records of all domain names and subdomains you add in your hosting account. You can easily check what A and MX records each of them has through the DNS Records section of the Hepsia hosting CP and editing any record takes simply a few mouse clicks. If you choose to change your web or email hosting provider, you can change the necessary record and point your domain to the other service provider for one of the services, while you still carry on using the other one through us. Also you can keep the main domain name here, while you change the A record of only one of its subdomains. When you're modifying the MX records and you need additional ones on top of the standard two that we have, you could create them with ease and set a different priority for every one.
