Setting up a CNAME record for each of the domains or subdomains that you've got in a hosting account allows you to point it to a different domain/subdomain. The forwarded domain will lose all its records - A, MX and so forth, and will take the records of the domain it is being directed to. In this light, you cannot create a CNAME record to point your domain name to a third-party company and retain a functional email service with the first hosting provider. Also, it is important to note that a CNAME record is always a string of words and never a number as it's generally wrongly identified as the A record of the domain name being forwarded. One of the major uses of a CNAME record is to direct a domain name which you own through one provider to the servers of some other company assuming you have created an Internet site with the latter. This way, the website will appear under your own domain address, not under some subdomain provided by the third-party provider.

CNAME Records in Hosting

The Hepsia hosting CP, which we provide with each and every hosting plan, will enable you to set up CNAME records for every domain address or subdomain hosted inside the account with just a few mouse clicks. If you aren't confident how to go about it, you can check the video tutorial that's available within the CP, read the detailed Help article on the subject, or you can simply contact us and we can assist you 24/7, although it is not likely you'll experience any troubles as all it takes to create a new CNAME record is to pick a domain/subdomain, type the hostname that you're redirecting to, and save the change. The new record is going to be fully active within the hour. Using CNAME records allows you to have better control of your domain names and site content and our system is simple and user-friendly enough to allow people with no previous experience to create such records with ease.

CNAME Records in Semi-dedicated Servers

If you have a semi-dedicated server through our company and you wish to create a CNAME record, it will take just a few clicks to complete this task. The plans are managed using our in-house built Hepsia hosting Control Panel where you will see a section committed to the DNS records of the domain addresses and subdomains hosted in the account. To create a CNAME record, you will simply have to choose the record type and the hostname (domain or subdomain), key in where the latter will be forwarded to and save the modification. The new record will be active almost right away in our system and will propagate worldwide within a couple of hours. Modifying or deleting an existing CNAME record within the account is equally simple and easy and takes a click. If you experience any issues, you can go through our comprehensive help article, check out the short video on the topic that we have added in the Control Panel, or simply contact us for help.
